Montenegro Deploys Drones for Aerial Traffic Surveillance

Montenegrin police are now employing drones as part of their strategy to enhance road safety and combat traffic violations. The Police Directorate announced that these unmanned aerial vehicles are being utilized alongside increased patrol presence, particularly in the central and southern regions of the country.

This initiative aligns with modern policing practices observed in European Union member states, where drones serve as an effective tool for traffic monitoring. The objective is to promptly identify the most severe traffic offenses and implement preventive measures to decrease the number of road accidents.

The activities of air surveillance are modeled after the modern practice of police services in EU member states, where the use of unmanned aerial vehicles is an effective tool for traffic surveillance, timely detection of the most serious traffic violations, and preventive action to reduce the number of traffic accidents.

The use of drones allows authorities to record serious violations that pose a significant risk to life and limb. These include drastic speeding, illegal and dangerous overtaking, overtaking a column of vehicles over a solid line, and overtaking in blind curves, among other gross breaches of traffic regulations.

Intensive use of video surveillance systems, drones, and other available modern technical means will be maintained throughout the summer tourist season. This period sees a heightened volume of both domestic and foreign tourists, especially on routes and locations identified as having an increased risk of traffic accidents.
