Teenager pleads guilty to attack in Georgia school that killed students and teachers

A 16-year-old boy, Colt Greer, has pleaded guilty to all 55 charges stemming from a fatal armed assault at Northside High School in Georgia nearly two years ago. Greer entered the guilty plea without a prior agreement with prosecutors, reversing his earlier plea of not guilty.

The September 4, 2024, shooting claimed the lives of two students and two teachers, while eight other individuals sustained injuries. The incident occurred at the high school located approximately 73 kilometers northeast of Atlanta. Before accepting the plea, Superior Court Judge Nicholas Prim questioned Greer extensively to ensure he understood the consequences of his admission and was acting voluntarily.

Greer, who was 14 at the time of the crime, is now charged as an adult with murder and faces a minimum sentence of life imprisonment. The judge will determine his eligibility for parole after reviewing victim impact statements, evidence, and arguments from both the prosecution and defense.

Prosecutors allege that Greer's father, Colin Greer, provided his son with the rifle used in the attack. Colin Greer was previously found guilty of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in July and awaits sentencing. Evidence suggests Colt Greer meticulously planned the attack, documenting his intentions step-by-step in a notebook, including estimates of potential casualties.

Investigators revealed that Greer smuggled the rifle into the school by concealing it within a poster. He then left a class, went to a restroom, and emerged with the weapon to carry out the shooting in a classroom and hallway. Northside High School serves approximately 1,900 students.
