Montevideo launches 'Alerta Camión' for real-time garbage truck notifications

Montevideo's Intendencia has introduced "Alerta Camión," a new system designed to enhance waste collection services through real-time notifications. This initiative utilizes geolocation technology to send alerts via WhatsApp, informing residents about the exact timing of mixed waste and recyclable material collection trucks.

The system was launched in the Malvín neighborhood, with officials including Intendant Mario Bergara and environmental development heads present. "Alerta Camión" is a component of the "Hogares Sustentables" program, which has been developing technological solutions to aid residents in proper waste disposal since its inception.

Initially, the service is available to residents in Malvín who have in-home containers within a specific zone. The Intendencia plans to refine the system throughout July before a progressive rollout to other neighborhoods participating in the "Hogares Sustentables" program starting in August. Residents interested in joining can sign up by sending a WhatsApp message to a designated number.

This innovation underscores Montevideo's commitment to continuous improvement in its cleaning services and the promotion of responsible waste management practices within the city.
