Moon Jae-in's Pyeongsan Bookshop marks 1200 days, serving 630,000 visitors

Pyeongsan Bookshop, the literary haven managed by former South Korean President Moon Jae-in, has marked its 1200th day of operation, drawing a remarkable total of over 630,000 visitors. On average, the bookshop in the rural village of Pyeongsan has welcomed 523 people daily since its opening.

Moon Jae-in, known for his love of books, has actively participated as the "bookshop keeper," volunteering his time at the small 30-pyeong (approx. 100 sq meter) establishment. With the exception of brief family vacations or official events in Seoul, he has been a near-constant presence, engaging with visitors and sharing his passion for literature. To date, he has personally recommended 124 books, including notable titles like "My Father's Liberation Journal" by Jeong Ji-a and "Because We Are Lonely, We Are Human" by Jeong Ho-seung.

Pyeongsan Bookshop reached 1200 days of operation on the 8th. The cumulative number of visitors reached 628,769, with an average of 523 people visiting Pyeongsan Bookshop in a small rural village amidst beautiful nature every day.

The bookshop's commitment extends beyond its walls, with all profits dedicated to public welfare initiatives. Pyeongsan Bookshop has actively supported educational and cultural programs for underprivileged children and youth across the country. This includes establishing bookshops in facilities for special needs students and in remote rural areas, enabling students to select their own books. Since its inception, the bookshop has donated 4,466 books to 2,122 individuals and provided them with reading notebooks and eco-bags.

Furthermore, Pyeongsan Bookshop has extended its reach to support local libraries. It has donated 3,950 books to 79 small libraries in the Yangsan city area and an additional 1,280 books to 40 small libraries nationwide, continuing its mission to foster a love for reading.

He has volunteered as the bookshop keeper at Pyeongsan Bookshop since his retirement. Except for a few days for family vacations or attending events in Seoul, he has come to the small 30-pyeong bookshop almost every day and had conversations with visitors through books.
