The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua face a more demanding, yet potentially more rewarding, path to the Super Rugby Pacific title starting in 2027. A revamped competition structure has been confirmed, designed to elevate the tournament's intensity and significance.

The expanded format includes a 17-week regular season, where all ten teams, including the Fijian Drua, will play 16 matches – two more than in the previous season. The competition kicks off on February 12, 2027, with fewer byes intended to maintain momentum. For the Drua, known for their high-tempo, collision-heavy style, this necessitates strong early performances, especially in the first two months, as these will influence selections for the inaugural Anzac Day Bledisloe Cup Test squad after Round 9.

A significant change affects the Finals Series, which will now feature only the top six teams. Crucially, finishing in the top two offers a substantial advantage: direct passage to the semi-finals and a valuable week of rest. This reward could be particularly beneficial for a physically demanding team like the Drua. Teams placed third and fourth will host sudden-death elimination finals against the fifth and sixth-placed teams, intensifying the pressure on securing every point throughout the season.

Super Rugby Pacific has stated the new structure aims to make every match matter more. For the Fijian Drua, this translates to a clear imperative: early season momentum and securing a top-four position could be pivotal for their entire campaign. The 2027 Grand Final is scheduled for June 26.
