More than 50,000 attend National Day celebrations in Perlis

More than 50,000 people filled the Tuanku Syed Putra Complex in Kangar for Perlis’ 69th National Day celebrations.

The event was attended by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, and the Raja Perempuan Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid. Other members of the Perlis royal family and Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah also attended.

The celebrations featured performances by Liza Hanim, Nawary Kilauan Emas, Kugiran Wak Jeng, Renjaka Band and Guitar Rockestra. A parade involving 70 government agencies and nongovernmental organizations drew nearly 2,000 university reserve officer cadets.

Other attractions included a combined military band, a martial arts performance, a Royal Malaysia Police pantomime and the Rentak Anak Malaysia show. The program also included contests for the best attire and marching team, along with a lucky draw.

At midnight, Abu Bakar led the countdown and the crowd’s Merdeka cheers. Organizers then raised the Jalur Gemilang and played the national anthem before fireworks closed the celebration.
