Morelos prosecutor urges gas company to compensate victims of Cuernavaca explosion

The Morelos prosecutor's office has received 31 formal complaints related to damages and injuries sustained from a gas leak explosion that rocked the Las Granjas neighborhood in Cuernavaca on Thursday, August 6. State Prosecutor General Fernando Blumenkron Escobar confirmed that forensic teams and public ministry agents were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist affected residents.

Blumenkron Escobar reported that initial contact has been made with Tomza, the gas company responsible for the truck involved in the incident. The prosecutor's office is pressing the company to assume responsibility for the care of those injured and to compensate for the damages caused by the explosion. "The idea is that they also take charge of attending to the injured in the best way possible and that the damages are repaired," Blumenkron Escobar stated.

From the first moment we became aware of the events, forensic personnel from the Prosecutor's Office went to the site, in fact, they continue to intervene and we have so far 31 complaints for damages and injuries, public ministry agents were also present at the site to attend to the people closely.

The driver of the gas truck is currently a fugitive, and authorities are actively pursuing leads. The investigation is also examining the circumstances surrounding the truck's presence in the area, with preliminary information suggesting it may have been used in a celebration for General Emiliano Zapata Salazar's birthday in Anenecuilco, a municipality in Ayala, prior to the explosion. The prosecutor's office has taken possession of the vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.
