Morena denies 'R1' is party member; highlights anti-crime 'Operation Swarm'

Mexico's ruling Morena party has vehemently denied any affiliation with Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala, known as "R1," who is allegedly the intellectual author behind the murder of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo. The party asserted that "R1" has never been, nor is he currently, a member of Morena, nor has he held any position within the movement.

In a public statement, the National Executive Committee (CEN) of Morena declared, "In Morena, we do not protect or conceal anyone; we have no collusion with crime. On the contrary, governments stemming from our movement act in accordance with the law through actions like Operation Swarm, which has brought 85 public servants from municipalities governed by various political parties to justice."

The party emphasized its commitment to transparency and law enforcement, contrasting its actions with alleged attempts to link it to criminal elements. Morena called for journalistic rigor and responsibility, particularly when reporting on individuals who have no connection to the party. They specifically requested that media outlets refrain from falsely associating the movement with non-members.

Morena also took the opportunity to recognize and endorse the efforts of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), led by Omar García Harfuch, in carrying out the arrest. This statement underscores the party's stance against corruption and crime, positioning its governments as proactive in upholding the law and ensuring justice.
