Morena leader says lawmakers must win a survey and have clean records to seek reelection

Morena lawmakers seeking reelection will have to clear two hurdles: win a party survey and avoid what national party leader Ariadna Montiel called “bad records.”

You will be able to seek reelection if the people want it. Those who are lawmakers may seek reelection as long as they win the survey.

Montiel delivered the warning during Morena’s plenary meeting at San Lázaro. She said lawmakers could return to office if voters expressed support through the survey, but added that victory alone would not guarantee a candidacy.

We will never accept someone who has outstanding accounts, a questionable past or actions that prevent them from being part of this transformation.

She said Morena would reject members with alleged criminal conduct, “unconfessable ties,” outstanding accounts or a questionable past. Montiel argued that such figures could put the movement’s viability at risk and said people with bad records would not be allowed to represent the party.

Those who win the survey and have bad records will not be candidates.

She also asked federal lawmakers not to bring figures facing negative allegations into Morena. The party, she said, would tell them no. Her remarks set a clear condition for reelection bids while extending the same scrutiny to prospective party members.
