Morena leader slams PRI's 'rule-twisting' campaign against electoral ban

Ariadna Montiel Reyes, the national leader of Morena, has strongly criticized the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) for launching a new campaign that she claims attempts to bypass a ruling by the National Electoral Institute (INE). The INE had previously prohibited Morena from labeling the PRI as a "narco-party."

Montiel stated that the PRI's current strategy, which allegedly uses "cheap propaganda" to circumvent the INE's measure, reflects the party's "old culture of twisting rules when they don't suit them." She asserted that this approach demonstrates neither ingenuity nor bravery, but rather a familiar pattern of behavior from the PRI.

Furthermore, Montiel accused the PRI of a problematic past, alleging that during its time in power, the party allowed crime to flourish, protected corruption networks, and was associated with governors investigated or convicted for links to organized crime. She characterized the PRI as "the mafia of power," which used government positions for "dirty business and complicities." Montiel concluded that while the PRI may change its tactics, its history and the public's memory remain unchanged, and that Mexico decisively rejected this "regime of complicities" in 2018.
