Morena plans Mexico City tour to strengthen party ahead of 2027 elections

Morena's new leader in Mexico City says the party cannot assume that public support will automatically deliver victory in 2027. Paulo Emilio García has made a citywide organizing drive his first major task.

Speaking at the Assembly in Defense of the Transformation and National Sovereignty at the Plaza de las Tres Cultures, García said Morena must convert the social majority supporting Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada into an electoral majority. He described the work ahead as a long campaign of building conviction rather than a victory that would simply arrive.

He also pointed to public spending on welfare, territorial justice and the creation of a broad care system as sources of support for the movement. García linked his own political generation to the 2006 resistance against alleged electoral fraud, the war on drugs during Felipe Calderón's presidency and university mobilizations. He said that generation later accompanied Andrés Manuel López Obrador as young people in 2012.
