Moroccan media outlet backs Spain in World Cup final over Palestinian solidarity

Moroccan digital media outlet Alyaoum24 has broken its journalistic neutrality to openly support Spain in the upcoming 2026 World Cup final against Argentina. The outlet announced its decision on social media, stating its intention to back the Spanish national team.

In a public display of solidarity, Alyaoum24 shared an image featuring the flags of Spain and Palestine flanking the World Cup trophy, with the slogans "Viva España" and "Viva Palestina" emblazoned below. This message was also prominently displayed on a large banner hung from the media outlet's headquarters, as shown in a video shared on Facebook.

The decision stems from what Alyaoum24 describes as "recognition of the stances expressed recently by various Spanish national team players and diverse personalities from Spanish football." These figures have reportedly shown solidarity with the Palestinian cause and the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian cause holds significant sympathy among the Moroccan public. Simultaneously, Spanish football enjoys considerable popularity in Morocco, with LaLiga widely followed and numerous fan clubs dedicated to teams like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Atlético de Madrid.
