Morocco, Algeria book 2027 Women's World Cup spots

Morocco and Algeria have secured their places in the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil, marking a significant step for African football on the global stage. Both nations reached the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, guaranteeing their qualification for the expanded 32-team tournament.

Morocco, under the guidance of Spanish coach Jorge Vilda, who previously led Spain to the 2023 World Cup title, defeated South Africa 2-1 in Rabat. Sakina Ouzraoui and Hanina Ait El Haj scored for the Moroccan team. Meanwhile, Algeria also secured a 2-1 victory against Ivory Coast in Casablanca, with Ines Khiri and Amira Braham scoring the decisive goals.

With these two teams advancing, half of the World Cup slots are now filled, bringing the total to 16 qualified nations. The remaining African qualifiers will be determined through further matches in the Africa Cup of Nations. The two remaining direct African berths will come from the quarter-final matches between Cameroon and Nigeria, and Malawi and Ghana. The four losing quarter-finalists will then compete in play-off matches for two spots in an intercontinental play-off tournament.
