Morocco Forest Fire Contained After Burning 24 Hectares

Moroccan authorities have successfully contained a forest fire that erupted in the Tighzratine region of Taza province. Efforts by field intervention teams have "ringed" the blaze, achieving 100% control, according to Murad Saafdi, the regional director of the National Agency for Water and Forests. The fire, which began on Monday, has been brought under control, with active flames and smoke columns subsiding.

We have achieved 100 percent containment of the forest fire.

Saafdi provided an initial, estimated assessment of 24 hectares consumed by the fire. This figure is subject to refinement pending a precise topographical survey. The affected vegetation consists mainly of Aleppo pine and holm oak, along with secondary plants and grasses. Firefighting and monitoring teams will remain stationed at the site to continue surveillance and ensure the fire is fully extinguished.

The approximate area affected by the flames is estimated at about 24 hectares as a temporary and estimated figure.

The official announcement of the fire's complete eradication will be made after monitoring weather conditions and wind speed in the coming hours. Meanwhile, security authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Resources deployed to combat the blaze included two Canadair aircraft from the Royal Armed Forces, alongside equipment from civil protection services, the regional water and forests agency, and local authorities. An emergency meeting of the provincial security committee was held at the fire site.
