Morocco: Forest Fire in Dar Shawi Continues for Second Day Amid Difficult Conditions

Firefighting teams are in their second day of battling a significant forest fire in the Dar Shawi region of Tangier-Assilah, Morocco. Supported by specialized "Canadair" water-bombing aircraft and a Royal Gendarmerie helicopter, efforts are focused on extinguishing the blaze in the "Khandaq al-Sinan" area.

The fire has already consumed an estimated tens of hectares of forest. Local sources indicate that the difficult terrain and lack of easy access points are posing considerable challenges to the intervention teams. Strong winds are also exacerbating the situation, fanning the flames and accelerating their spread through the dense forest.

Despite the difficulties, progress has been reported in recent hours, with efforts concentrating on a prominent point of the fire. Two main hotspots have reportedly been brought under control. Authorities are relying on the "Canadair" planes' effectiveness to contain the fire and prevent further destruction of vital forest areas.

The operation involves a coordinated effort from various agencies, including the Civil Protection, Royal Armed Forces, Royal Gendarmerie, regional and local authorities, water and forestry services, and auxiliary forces. Local residents are also assisting. This fire occurs amid a regional alert for forest fires, with Mediterranean countries like France and Spain experiencing unprecedented blazes.
