Morocco's PAM Party Calls for Comprehensive Migration Approach

The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) has called for a holistic strategy to address irregular migration, following recent events in the regions of Fnideq and Belyounes. The party stated that the attempts to breach the border fences of Ceuta and Melilla reflect the intricate nature of irregular migration. PAM rejected what it described as "superficial" readings of the causes and any attempts to exploit the situation for political gain against state institutions.

In a statement from its political bureau, PAM emphasized that irregular migration is a profound national issue with intertwined social, geopolitical, and cultural dimensions. The party asserted that confronting the "allure" of unsafe migration is a collective responsibility, involving the state, institutions, families, political and civil actors, as well as neighboring countries and international organizations. PAM expressed understanding for the anxiety among young people facing blocked opportunities and poor communication with elites and institutions.

The party stressed that resolving the phenomenon requires national and international dialogue that considers historical, political, and security contexts, alongside the social and cultural drivers of migration. PAM praised the public authorities' management of the events, describing their intervention as wise, insightful, and transparent in public communication. The party also commended the efforts of public forces in managing the migration file and the initiation of a judicial investigation by the competent public prosecutor's office to clarify circumstances and assign legal responsibilities.

Conversely, PAM condemned acts of violence, vandalism, and assaults on public forces and public and private property. The party urged a stronger stance against human trafficking networks exploiting migrants and called for countering misleading social media campaigns that promote despair and fuel irregular migration attempts. PAM noted Morocco's ongoing development and social challenges but rejected using these events to diminish the kingdom's achievements, stating that migration management depends on balanced international cooperation respecting all parties' responsibilities. The party offered condolences to the victims' families and wished the injured a speedy recovery, reiterating its call for sustainable regional and international solutions given Morocco's position as a key transit point to the northern Mediterranean.
