Moscow restaurant blast kills 3, injures 21

A blast at an upscale Italian restaurant in Moscow on July 1st claimed three lives and injured 21 people. Russian media reports suggest the incident originated when a woman attempted to enter the "Balzi Rossi" restaurant on Kudrinskaya Square with an explosive device. Security reportedly denied her entry, after which the bomb detonated. The National Anti-Terror Committee (NAC) stated that an unidentified woman tried to bring the explosive into the establishment. The identities of the victims and any potential suspects have not yet been released by Russian authorities. Initial reports indicate that among the fatalities were a customer, the woman carrying the bomb, and a security guard. According to sources cited by the Russian newspaper Kommersant, the bomb was intended to target patrons in the restaurant's outdoor seating area. There is speculation that the device may have been remotely detonated, and the woman carrying it might not have been aware it was an explosive.
