Elderly man falls into river in Changhua, found dead

A 75-year-old man from Xiushui Township in Taiwan's Changhua County tragically fell into a river on August 1st and was later found deceased. The incident prompted a large-scale search and rescue operation involving the local fire department.

According to the Lukang Police Precinct, the man had left home around 8 a.m. and did not return, leading his family to search for him. They discovered his motorcycle and slippers near the Qingfeng Bridge, a location confirmed by surveillance footage to be where the man was last seen.

Firefighters deployed rubber boats and utilized drones to search the Shisun drainage. The Changhua County Fire Bureau dispatched six fire trucks, one ambulance, and nine personnel, with additional support from the Changhua County Rescue Association, which provided 10 members and a rescue boat. The search focused on the river downstream from the Xiushui Bridge, considering the water flow and closed sluice gates.

Tragically, at approximately 6 p.m., rescue teams found the missing elderly man in the river east of Qingfeng Bridge. He was brought ashore by boat but was pronounced dead at the scene, showing no signs of life. His family confirmed his identity, and no further medical intervention was deemed necessary.
