Mostly clear across South Korea, with brief heat in Jeonnam and Gyeongnam

Sunday will bring mostly clear skies across South Korea, but the weather will turn cloudy and wet along parts of the east coast and on Jeju Island. A brief spell of heat is expected in the southwest and southeast, where felt temperatures could rise to around 31°C.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast daytime highs of 25°C to 31°C, broadly in line with or slightly above seasonal averages. Seoul and Incheon are expected to reach 29°C, while Gwangju could hit 30°C. Daejeon and Jeonju are forecast at 28°C and 29°C, respectively.

Rain is expected in the Gangwon coast and mountains, the northern Gyeongsang coast and northeastern mountains, and Jeju. Before midday, isolated rain could also fall along the southern Gyeongsang coast and in parts of Busan, Ulsan and eastern inland Gyeongsang. Through Monday, rainfall totals are forecast at less than 5 millimeters in parts of Busan, Ulsan and eastern Gyeongsang, 5 to 10 millimeters in several eastern coastal and mountainous areas, and 10 to 40 millimeters in the mountains and uplands of Jeju.

Strong wind advisories are in effect for parts of the southern coast and Jeju. Gusts could exceed 70 kilometers per hour along the Jeonnam coast and on Jeju, reaching more than 90 kilometers per hour in mountainous areas. Much of the rest of the country could see gusts around 55 kilometers per hour, prompting warnings about falling signs and branches. Fine dust levels are expected to remain good nationwide.
