Mother and Daughter Killed in Cavan Road Crash Named

A 10-year-old girl, identified locally as Irena (Ira) Mereacre, has died from injuries sustained in a tragic road crash in County Cavan, Ireland. Her mother, 53-year-old Nell Raven, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The incident occurred around 4:30 pm last Friday on the R162 road at Corclare, Shercock.

Ira was airlifted to Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street following the crash but tragically passed away in the hospital yesterday afternoon. Her mother, Nell Raven, was a writer and journalist who had recently become an Irish citizen. She had a distinguished career, working in London, Hong Kong, and Pakistan, and had corresponded for prominent UK newspapers, including The Telegraph. Ms. Raven was an alumna of Oxford Brookes University, holding an MA in creative writing.

The Drumlane Gaelic Football Club extended its condolences to the Raven family via social media, expressing deep sadness over the loss of Ms. Raven and her daughter. "At this profoundly difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends, and all who knew and cherished them. We stand in solidarity with you in your grief and extend our heartfelt support," the club stated.

Gardaí, Ireland's national police force, have renewed their appeal for information regarding the collision. They are urging any road users who were in the vicinity between 4:15 pm and 5 pm last Friday, and who may possess relevant camera footage, to assist their investigation. Those with information are asked to contact Bailieborough Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any local garda station.
