Mother of four found dead with partner; investigation probes femicide-suicide

A disturbing case has gripped the province of Corrientes, Argentina, after a mother of four was found dead alongside her partner. Authorities are investigating the incident as a potential femicide followed by suicide.

The victim, identified as 46-year-old Marina Segovia, and the alleged aggressor, 36-year-old Sergio Hugo Sánchez, were discovered on Monday afternoon by Segovia's son. The son had gone to the house after his mother failed to respond to messages and calls. He found his mother unresponsive and Sánchez hanging nearby.

Investigators believe Sánchez suffocated Segovia with a phone charger cable before taking his own life. The case is being handled by Jorge Antonio Casarotto, head of Fiscal Unit N°9.

According to Segovia's brother, she had been assisting at a support center for addicts, where she may have met Sánchez, who reportedly had a history of substance abuse. "We didn't know about my sister Marina's relationship with this man," he told Radio Dos. "She always collaborated. We don't know what happened to this subject; it seems he became obsessed with her or fell in love with her."

The brother also mentioned that Segovia had stopped responding to calls on Sunday, and that her son and a friend had to force entry into the house. He noted that Sánchez had likely had "all Sunday to meditate on the decision" and that his sister had been deceased longer than Sánchez. The family is reportedly devastated.
