Mother of woman murdered in Nea Smyrni speaks out: 'She hadn't told me anything'

A mother's grief was palpable as she spoke to reporters outside the building where her 45-year-old daughter was murdered. The victim was shot and killed by a 48-year-old man who then took his own life. The man had allegedly lain in wait for the woman outside her apartment.

The victim's mother, visibly distraught, told journalists she knew nothing about her daughter's recent relationships. "I don't know anything. She hadn't told me anything. I just found out about my daughter. My other daughter called me and told me a little while ago," she said, tears streaming down her face. She confirmed her daughter had been divorced from her ex-husband for a long time.

Authorities discovered the bodies at the entrance of the apartment building. Security camera footage reportedly shows the 48-year-old suspect, of Albanian origin, waiting for the victim, also of Albanian origin, before shooting her and then turning the gun on himself. Police found the weapon at the scene.

Investigators are scrutinizing the suspect's social media, which shows him posing with firearms and engaging in martial arts. It remains unclear if the weapon in the photos is the same one used in the murder. Police are also examining the victim's final movements and her relationship with the perpetrator to determine the motive. The victim's 16-year-old daughter, with whom she lived, is expected to provide a statement. Authorities are also looking into a 2024 incident where the victim reported a former partner for taking her scooter after their breakup, though it's unconfirmed if this individual is the 48-year-old attacker.
