Motorboat takes on water; occupants rescued

A motorboat carrying five people, two adults and three children, encountered trouble in the Elbe estuary near Cuxhaven, leading to a rescue operation. The vessel, approximately 13 meters long, suffered an engine failure and subsequently collided with a stone dam.

The impact damaged the boat, causing it to take on water. Fortunately, a sea rescue cruiser from the Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS) was in the vicinity responding to another incident and was able to intervene.

The DGzRS reported that the crew of the motorboat was successfully rescued. Due to the damage and the boat becoming lodged against the stone dam, attempts to pump out the water were not possible. The five individuals on board were unharmed during the incident, which occurred early Friday evening. They managed to secure their essential belongings in an inflatable boat, which was also brought ashore.
