Motorcyclist dies after crash during overtaking attempt on Taiwan highway

A 34-year-old male motorcyclist, identified by the surname Tong, died following a single-vehicle accident on the Beiyi Highway in New Taipei City's Pinglin District on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred around 10:38 a.m. as Tong was riding his red-plate motorcycle from Xindian towards Pinglin. While navigating a curve at kilometer 34.6 of the highway, he reportedly attempted to overtake a car from the right side. During the maneuver, his motorcycle lost traction, causing him to skid and fall.

The impact of the fall was severe, leading to Tong losing consciousness and vital signs at the scene. Responding police and paramedics from the Xindian Precinct and Pinglin Police Station arrived quickly. They cordoned off the area, conducted evidence collection, and managed traffic to prevent further accidents.

Tong was rushed to Wanfang Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him due to the severity of his injuries. Police have notified his family and are investigating the exact cause of the accident, including a blood alcohol test being conducted at the hospital. The driver of the car that Tong attempted to overtake has also been contacted to provide a statement.
