Motorcyclist Injured in Taiwan Hit-and-Run; Police Seek Suspect

A motorcyclist in New Taipei City sustained severe injuries after a multi-vehicle collision, compounded by the alleged hit-and-run of the initial perpetrator. The incident occurred on July 30th when a 56-year-old man, identified by the surname Cao, attempted to make a left turn at an intersection in Sanchong District.

According to reports, Cao was struck by a motorcyclist riding in the same direction from behind. The impact caused both vehicles to fall. Subsequently, a third motorcyclist, a 73-year-old man identified as Li, who was approaching from the opposite direction, collided with the downed vehicles.

Cao was transported to a hospital with multiple bruises, a severe head injury, and a fractured leg. His family publicly accused the initial rider of hitting Cao, verbally abusing him, and then fleeing the scene, raising suspicions of drunk or drugged driving. They appealed for public assistance in identifying the suspect.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage to reconstruct the incident. They have identified the fleeing motorcyclist and are summoning him for questioning. The investigation will determine fault and whether charges of reckless endangerment and hit-and-run will be pursued. The suspect faces potential fines and license revocation. Authorities are also investigating the possibility of alcohol or drug impairment.
