Prof. Dr. Norlaila Mustafa, a specialist in Endocrinology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, stresses that Mounjaro and similar drugs like Wegovy should only be used based on clinical indications, not for cosmetic desires. She warns against viewing these as over-the-counter weight loss products.

Dr. Nurul Hakimah Maliza Abdul Malik, an Aesthetic Medicine specialist, echoes this sentiment, explaining that Mounjaro targets obesity and metabolic disorders, not beauty trends. A thorough patient assessment is crucial before a doctor prescribes it. This evaluation goes beyond just weight, considering Body Mass Index (BMI), body fat percentage, co-existing health conditions, previous weight loss attempts, and dietary habits.

Dr. Hakimah clarifies that not everyone who appears overweight is a candidate for Mounjaro. Doctors need to understand if patients have tried diet and exercise, their health issues, and their true goals. While some seek treatment to reduce chronic disease risk, others are influenced by social media trends. These individuals receive counseling before any prescription is considered, as Mounjaro is not a "magic pen" but a medical treatment.
