Mount Pleasant advance to CFU Shield semi-finals with narrow win

Mount Pleasant Football Academy has secured its place in the semi-finals of the CFU Club Shield, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Weymouth Wales of Barbados. The quarterfinal match took place at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Trinidad, with the Jamaican team advancing thanks to a second-half goal.

The decisive moment came in the 66th minute when Johnson Jeudi capitalized on a rebound. Weymouth Wales' goalkeeper had initially blocked a shot, but Jeudi was positioned to pounce on the loose ball and fire it into the unguarded net from just outside the 18-yard box. This goal proved to be the difference, propelling Mount Pleasant closer to the final and a potential qualification for the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.

Weymouth Wales, a team with an impressive record of 22 Barbadian Premier Division titles and a runner-up finish in last season's CFU Cup Shield, had multiple opportunities to score during the match. However, their attempts were consistently wayward, allowing Mount Pleasant to narrowly secure the win.

This victory marked Mount Pleasant's first game in the current stage of the competition, as they had automatically qualified for the quarterfinals after All Saints of Antigua withdrew. Weymouth Wales had reached the quarterfinals by defeating Britannia of Aruba 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Mount Pleasant now awaits the winner of the other quarterfinal clash between Slingerz of Guyana and SV Robinhood of Suriname for their semi-final encounter.
