Movement restricted under Section 144 in some areas of South Waziristan, Tank on Monday

Administrations in Lower South Waziristan, Upper South Waziristan, and Tank districts have imposed Section 144, a legal provision that empowers authorities to prohibit public gatherings, in several areas. The restrictions are set to be in effect on Monday, August 10, citing security concerns and urging residents to avoid unnecessary movement during specific hours.

Separate notifications issued by the deputy commissioners of the three districts on Sunday evening detail the measures. These include movement restrictions between 6 am and 7 pm, along with the closure of markets and business centers in the designated areas. In Lower South Waziristan's Wana tehsil, a curfew will be enforced during these hours, prohibiting all forms of movement.

Several important roads and connecting routes in and around Wana will also be closed to general traffic. These include routes from Wana through Tiarza Gate, Karb Kot, Tanai, and Azizabad Chowk up to Dargai Bridge, as well as the road from Gul Kuch through Toi Khullah to Tanai. Movement on these affected routes will only be permitted in emergencies, requiring prior permission from police or security forces and the presentation of national identity cards and other relevant documents.

Similarly, in Upper South Waziristan, Section 144 will be enforced in Sarwekai and Ladha tehsils. Movement will be restricted, and markets and business centers will be closed. Major routes, including the one from Ladha through Makeen, Tabai Sar, Bibi Raghzai, Kotkai, and Spinkai Raghzai to Nazar Khel, will be inaccessible. The route from Dargai Bridge through Medi Jan, Sheen Warsak, Mola Khan Sarai, and Chagmalai to Jandola, and the route from Sarwekai through Mola Khan Sarai to Barwand, will also be closed to general traffic during the restricted period. The administration warned that any violation of these restrictions could lead to legal action.
