MSD Expands Eye Drug Development to Include Diabetic Macular Edema Trials in South Korea Partnership

American pharmaceutical giant MSD is broadening its development of an eye disease treatment in collaboration with South Korean biotech firm Injeania Therapeutics. The drug candidate, known as IGT-427, is advancing into global Phase 3 clinical trials for diabetic macular edema.

This marks an expansion from its initial focus on wet age-related macular degeneration. The inclusion of diabetic macular edema as a target condition doubles the number of diseases the drug is being tested for. With this new trial, there are now a total of four ongoing clinical studies for IGT-427.

The expansion signifies a significant step in the drug's development pipeline, aiming to address a wider range of vision-impairing conditions. The clinical trials are being conducted globally, underscoring the international scope of MSD's research and development efforts.
