MTN Ghana doubles Heroes of Change prize to GH¢400,000

MTN Ghana has significantly boosted the prize package for its eighth annual Heroes of Change initiative, doubling the top award to GH¢400,000. This move aims to amplify recognition for individuals whose selfless efforts are transforming lives across Ghana.

The overall winner will now receive GH¢400,000, a substantial increase from the previous GH¢200,000. Category winners in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment will also see their awards rise from GH¢60,000 to GH¢200,000. Additionally, new awards for sustainability and digital innovation have been introduced, alongside increased support for finalists and nominators.

Progress in this country has never belonged to institutions alone. It has been carried by ordinary people doing extraordinary things quietly at their own cost, with nobody watching.

Mrs. Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, highlighted that the initiative celebrates "ordinary Ghanaians making extraordinary contributions." She emphasized that progress is often driven by individuals working quietly at their own cost, without seeking recognition. The program, marking MTN Ghana's 30th anniversary, aims to inspire more people to contribute to national development.

As we begin this season, we look forward to discovering another group of remarkable individuals whose actions and sacrifices are changing lives.

Since its inception seven seasons ago, Heroes of Change has recognized over 100 individuals. The MTN Ghana Foundation has also implemented more than 178 social intervention projects, impacting approximately five million people. Madam Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Acting General Manager of Sustainability and Shared Value at MTN Ghana, noted that the initiative values love, integrity, trust, and resilience, stressing that consistent acts of service create lasting change.

Dr. Angela Dwamena-Aboagye, Executive Director of The Ark Foundation Ghana and a previous winner, shared how the recognition and financial support from the initiative have been instrumental in their work supporting abused women and children. The prize money enabled the renovation of their transit shelter, creating a safer environment for survivors.
