Muhammad Ali taught me life lessons, says RCCG General Overseer Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared how late boxing champion Muhammad Ali influenced his understanding of life's struggles. Speaking during a sermon titled “Divine Champion” at the church's headquarters in Lagos, Adeboye highlighted lessons learned from Ali and his own boxing coach.

One of the things I learned from Ali is that before any fight, he would provoke his opponent with insults so they would become furious before stepping into the ring.

Adeboye recalled Ali's pre-fight psychological tactics, such as taunting opponents to provoke anger. He cited the example of Ali's bout with Sonny Liston, where Ali's verbal provocations reportedly left Liston enraged and focused on retaliation rather than strategy. This, Adeboye explained, underscored the importance of preparation and strategic thinking in any battle.

Drawing parallels to life's challenges, Adeboye emphasized the critical need for divine guidance. He told worshippers that just as a boxer needs a good coach, individuals need God to navigate life's complexities and fight their battles effectively. He stressed that God's wisdom is essential for overcoming unseen challenges and making sound decisions, particularly in relationships where true intentions may be hidden.

The pastor urged his congregation to cultivate a strong relationship with Christ, stating that divine wisdom is key to becoming a "champion" in life. He likened God's role to that of a supportive coach who not only acknowledges current achievements but also fosters growth and prevents carelessness. This message was delivered ahead of the RCCG's 74th Annual Convention.
