Multiple Accidents Cause Severe Stau on German A3 Autobahn, One Injured Critically

A series of accidents on Germany's A3 autobahn near Erlangen has resulted in severe traffic congestion and multiple injuries. The most serious incident occurred when a 52-year-old man, driving a small truck, failed to notice the queue of stopped vehicles. He crashed into the back of a truck, becoming trapped in the wreckage.

Emergency services freed the injured man, who was then airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. This accident forced a full closure of the A3 for approximately one and a half hours, causing tailbacks that stretched as far back as Unterfranken. In the opposing direction, traffic was also impeded by onlookers, leading to investigations against them.

Further down the road, another accident near Höchstadt-Nord saw a 37-year-old man seriously injured after colliding with a truck trailer at high speed and then hitting a concrete barrier. This incident resulted in the A3 being restricted to a single lane for about three hours in the direction of Regensburg.

In the same direction, a separate collision between the Fürth/Erlangen interchange and Erlangen-Tennenlohe necessitated a 45-minute full closure. A motorcyclist sustained minor injuries in this crash. Additionally, a car overturned after an evasive maneuver near Höchstadt-Ost, leading to minor injuries for its three occupants and another half-hour closure of the autobahn.
