Multiple Autobahn Accidents in Thuringia Amid Heavy Rain

Thuringia's autobahns experienced a series of accidents on the morning of July 1, 2026, attributed primarily to drivers exceeding speed limits on rain-slicked roads. The adverse weather conditions contributed to multiple collisions across the region's highways.

One incident occurred on the A73 towards Suhl, where a 41-year-old driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The car veered off the road, struck a wildlife protection fence, spun back onto the autobahn, and overturned. This accident alone resulted in an estimated damage cost of 45,000 euros and minor injuries to the driver.

Another collision took place on the A4 in the direction of Weimar, involving a vehicle that skidded and side-swiped a parallel-moving car. The driver in this instance also sustained minor injuries, with damages estimated at 8,000 euros.

In addition to these two incidents, at least four other accidents were reported across Thuringia's autobahns, including on the A9, in connection with the rainy weather. The total estimated property damage from all these weather-related accidents amounts to approximately 95,000 euros, bringing the combined total for the morning's incidents to around 148,000 euros.
