Munster, Leinster and Connacht head to France for preseason games to test out new signings

Irish rugby provinces Munster, Leinster, and Connacht are heading to France for preseason matches, marking their first competitive environment as they ramp up preparations for the new season. These games serve as crucial tests for new signings and squad dynamics.

Munster, coached by Clayton McMillan, will face La Rochelle at Stade Marcel-Deflandre. The French club boasts familiar faces in its coaching staff, including former Munster players Ronan O’Gara, Donnacha Ryan, and Sean Dougall. Munster has also bolstered its squad with new signings like props Kieran Brookes and Jack Aungier, hooker Marnus van der Merwe, and utility back Will Harrison. The province has also seen several players depart, including Jean Kleyn to Gloucester.

Connacht is traveling to Vannes, who have earned promotion back to the Top 14. They have recruited players such as Ciarán Frawley and Will Connors from Leinster. Connacht will also play English Championship side Ealing Trailfinders in Galway as part of their preseason schedule.

Meanwhile, Leinster is set to play Lyon at Stade Matmut de Gerland. Before this match, Leinster CEO Shane Nolan will provide a briefing on the €52 million development of the Laya Arena. This project includes a new Anglesea Stand, which will increase the stadium's capacity to 20,400 for rugby matches. The stadium will have a soft opening for a rugby match with capped attendance when Leo Cullen’s squad hosts Zebre on September 12th, with season-ticket holders receiving priority.
