Muratbek Azimbakiev appointed Kyrgyzstan's permanent representative to UN in Geneva

Muratbek Azimbakiev has been appointed as Kyrgyzstan's new Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations based in Geneva. The announcement was made by the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan.

Azimbakiev, born on July 26, 1965, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has held significant positions within the Kyrgyz diplomatic corps and international bodies. His career includes serving as head of the foreign policy department of the presidential administration since May 19, 2022.

His extensive educational background includes graduating with honors from Moscow State University's historical faculty in 1990, a language and diplomatic internship at the Japan Center in Tokyo in 1992-1993, and graduating with honors from the Diplomatic Academy of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993. He also completed international courses for NATO and Partnership for Peace program participants in Geneva in 2002-2003.

Azimbakiev's professional journey spans various diplomatic and administrative roles. He has served as a diplomat in various capacities within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, including postings in New York and India. He also held positions at the International Road Transport Union (IRU) in Geneva and served as Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) from 2019 to 2021.
