Murder case: Wife confesses to arranging hitman for husband in Turkey

A murder case involving a shoe wholesaler, Mehmet Akgül, found dead in his truck on April 10, 2024, is progressing in an İzmir court. Akgül, a married father of one, was discovered unresponsive at the wheel of his vehicle with a broken window and a gunshot wound to the head.

An investigation revealed that Akgül was likely killed at the scene where his truck was found. Security camera footage led police to focus on two suspects, Rojhat Kızılban and Gültekin Uslu, who were in a car that entered the neighborhood around the time of the murder. Akgül's wife, Anıl Akgül, was also taken into custody due to inconsistent behavior.

During police questioning, Rojhat Kızılban and Gültekin Uslu denied the accusations. However, Anıl Akgül confessed to arranging the murder. She claimed her husband had become distant, leading her to start a relationship with Rojhat Kızılban. She stated that she hired Gültekin Uslu as a hitman through Kızılban for 500,000 Turkish Lira, though Uslu was reportedly never paid.

The prosecution has charged Anıl Akgül with aggravated intentional homicide of her spouse, seeking a sentence of life imprisonment. Rojhat Kızılban and Gültekin Uslu face charges of intentional homicide, with prosecutors also seeking life sentences for them, along with up to three years in prison for illegal firearm possession. The court is currently hearing the case.
