Museveni urges Ugandans to turn development into household wealth

President Yoweri Museveni wants Uganda’s roads, electricity, schools and health centres to do more than mark development. He wants households to turn them into businesses, jobs and lasting income.

State Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives David Bahati delivered the message on Museveni’s behalf at a fundraising ceremony for St. James Kakiika Church of Uganda. “Let development translate into wealth at household level,” Bahati quoted the president as saying.

Museveni encouraged Ugandans to engage in commercial agriculture, manufacturing, industry, services and information and communications technology. He also urged communities to use government programmes, including Emyooga and the Parish Development Model, to support activities that generate income.

The event also focused on the construction of St. James Kakiika Church, which Bahati said began through the efforts of Esteri Kokundeka, Museveni’s mother, and other Christians.

Museveni congratulated the church leadership and Kakiika Christians on reaching the roofing stage. He praised the Church Board, clergy and organising committee for their commitment to the project. “As we build the House of God, let us also build stronger, self-reliant households and a prosperous Uganda,” Bahati said, conveying the president’s message.
