Museveni Warns MPs On Corruption, Absenteeism in Public Service

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on Members of Parliament from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to intensify their oversight of government programs and lead the charge against corruption. Speaking at the 3rd NRM Parliamentary Caucus of the 12th Parliament, Museveni urged legislators to remain focused on the needs of ordinary Ugandans and the party's overarching goal of socioeconomic transformation.

The President specifically warned MPs about the dangers of corruption, imploring them to expose practices that hinder government programs and public service delivery within their constituencies. He pointed to alleged job sales by District Service Commissions and reports of officials demanding kickbacks from beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM). Museveni emphasized that the PDM was designed to lift households out of poverty and should not become a tool for personal enrichment.

Furthermore, Museveni directed MPs to enhance their monitoring of government health facilities. This includes scrutinizing the attendance of medical personnel and the proper utilization of medicines. The government is considering dismissing habitually absent doctors and replacing them with dedicated staff to address service delivery gaps. The President also urged legislators to closely track medicines supplied to government hospitals and health centers, ensuring they reach the intended beneficiaries and are not stolen or misused.
