Mysterious booms and tremors leave West Bandung residents thinking it sounds like a concert system

Mysterious booming sounds and tremors unsettled residents across Greater Bandung, with some saying the vibrations lightly shook windows and doors.

I had already fallen asleep, then my wife woke me because she heard booms and felt tremors from midnight until 1 a.m.

Residents reported the phenomenon from Friday night into the early hours of Saturday in Bandung city, Bandung Regency and West Bandung Regency. Reports circulated widely on social media.

Restu Nugraha, 35, from Padalarang in West Bandung, said his wife woke him after hearing booms and feeling tremors between midnight and 1 a.m. At first, the couple thought the sound came from a concert because it resembled a powerful “sound horeg” system.

At first my wife thought it was a sound system, like sound horeg, because the vibration felt similar. There was a rumbling, so we thought it came from a concert.

They later checked social media and found that people in other areas had experienced the same thing. Restu said residents initially thought the disturbance was limited to West Bandung, but reports appeared from elsewhere as well.

We thought the vibrations were only local to West Bandung, but it turned out people in other areas felt them too.
