Nacional Potosí crushes Tomayapo 5-1 in commanding Copa Bolivia debut

The reigning champion began its Copa Bolivia campaign in emphatic fashion. Nacional Potosí overwhelmed Real Tomayapo 5-1 in Potosí in the rescheduled first-round match.

The game had originally been scheduled for August 18, but heavy snowfall in the department of Potosí made it impossible to play. The victory gave Nacional Potosí its first three points in Group B.

The match began evenly, with both goalkeepers, Diego Arauz of Nacional Potosí and Adorno of Real Tomayapo, involved early. Nacional took control after the 25th minute, and Andrés Torrico opened the scoring in the 31st minute. His goal was initially ruled offside, but VAR review confirmed it.

Mirko Tomianovic quickly turned the game into a rout after halftime. He made it 2-0 in the 47th minute after taking advantage of a defensive error, then scored again two minutes later with a powerful shot into the right corner.

Real Tomayapo reduced the deficit in the 72nd minute when Javier Guerra headed in a cross from Espíndola. The hope lasted only briefly. Damián Villalba restored Nacional’s three-goal lead in the 74th minute, heading home after Schneider Peña flicked on a cross. Nacional later added a fifth goal, with Villalba again involved in the scoring sequence.

Nacional Potosí will visit Real Oruro on September 9. It will then face Real Potosí on September 19 in an interseries classic, followed by another classic three days later as it catches up with the tournament schedule.
