NAFDAC retracts alert on Deleject needles, confirms products are safe

Nigeria's National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has officially retracted a public alert concerning Deleject Disposable Needles, assuring all stakeholders that the products currently on the market are safe for use. The agency clarified that Public Alert No. 042/2026, which had flagged the presence of whitish particulate matter in Deleject Disposable Needle Batch No. 240605, was mistakenly uploaded to its website.

In a statement signed by Bitrus Fraden, NAFDAC’s Director of Post Marketing Surveillance, the agency revealed that its investigation into the manufacturer, HMA, found no non-conformity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements. The initial complaint that led to the alert was lodged by Pharm Jiyah Dadi, whose pharmacy is located in Kaduna. The investigation determined that the Deleject syringes in question did not have a manufacturing defect.

There are currently no quality, safety, or regulatory issues that necessitate publication of the alert regarding Deleject Disposable Needle products available on the market.

NAFDAC indicated that the reported issue was more likely linked to a supply chain challenge and had been satisfactorily resolved through regulatory review and investigation several months prior. The agency stated that there are currently no quality, safety, or regulatory issues that warrant the alert, and products in distribution meet all applicable quality requirements and regulatory expectations.

The regulator urged healthcare providers, distributors, and other stakeholders to disregard the previous publication, reassuring them of the quality and safety of Deleject Disposable Needles. The agency expressed regret for the publication and confirmed that the clarification effectively withdraws the earlier alert, affirming the acceptability of Deleject Disposable Needle products currently in distribution for use.
