Nahdlatul Ulama Leader Calls for Revived Spirit of Mutual Help

The General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, has called on all members of the organization to rekindle the spirit of "ta'awun," or mutual help. He stressed that this principle is a crucial foundation for maintaining the integrity of society and the nation.

During the opening of the 35th NU Congress in Jombang, East Java, Gus Yahya, as he is widely known, referenced the teachings of NU founder Hadratussyekh KH Hasyim Asy’ari. He quoted from "Muqaddimah Qanun Asasi NU," highlighting that mutual help is the bedrock upon which societal order is built. "Mutual help is the foundation for the functioning of societal order," Gus Yahya stated.

Gus Yahya explained that a society built on the principle of ta'awun transcends concerns about who holds power or occupies specific positions. Instead, all elements of society prioritize cooperation for the common good and collective advancement. He emphasized that this spirit should not be confined to the internal affairs of NU.

The 35th NU Congress, themed "Guarding Honor, Enriching Service for the Nation's Welfare," runs from August 27-30, 2026. The event brings together NU leaders from across Indonesia to discuss and reinforce the organization's role in national life.
