Nakashima reaches first Masters semifinal at ATP Montreal

American tennis player Brandon Nakashima has advanced to his first career semifinal at a Masters 1000 event, reaching the final four at the ATP Montreal tournament. The world No. 31 secured his spot by defeating Italy's Luciano Darderi, ranked No. 22, in the quarterfinals with a score of 6-2, 6-3.

This victory marks Nakashima's second consecutive win against Darderi and his deepest run in a Masters 1000 series tournament. Previously, his best performance in these elite events was reaching the round of 16.

Nakashima is now set to compete for a place in his first final against the winner of the match between France's Arthur Fils and Spain's Rafael Jodar. That match was interrupted with Jodar leading 5-4 in the first set, awaiting a tiebreak.

Heavy rain on Monday forced the postponement of several quarterfinal matches, including Fils vs. Jodar, leading organizers to reschedule all four quarterfinal contests for Tuesday. Other scheduled night matches include Spain's Daniel Merida against American Learner Tien, and defending champion Ben Shelton of the Czech Republic facing American Jakub Mensik.
