Narrow, Muddy Roads and Traffic Hamper Alternative Route to Rasuwa

An alternative road to Rasuwa has opened after floods and landslides destroyed highways and bridges, but the route is struggling to handle the traffic carrying relief supplies.

The road, which runs from Kathmandu through Tokha, Chhahare, Chhahare and other settlements to Dhunche, opened three days ago for small four-wheel-drive vehicles. Its narrow width makes two-way movement difficult, while rain has turned the unpaved surface muddy.

Municipal and rural-municipality excavators have cleared some sections. Vehicles continue to face trouble where the machinery has not yet reached, leaving relief convoys stuck in long traffic jams.
