Three brothers and two relatives from a Solukhumbu family lost contact in Rasuwa flood

Three brothers and two relatives from Nepal’s Solukhumbu district have remained unreachable since a devastating flood struck Rasuwa on August 27.

Ranjita Budhathoki Magar said her three older brothers and two relatives lost contact while in the border area. Three brothers and one relative had been traveling with Indian tourists on a Mount Kailash trip in Tibet. The fifth relative was preparing to travel to China and was applying for a visa, with Timure his last known location.

Four of them left Kathmandu on August 17 for the Kailash trip. Ranjita said a call connected at about 8 a.m. on August 27, but nobody could speak. After the flood, she repeatedly called the phones. “After learning about the flood, I kept calling, but no one picked up. Around 11 a.m., the phone switched off,” she said.

Ranjita said a China-based website’s list of uncontacted people included the names of her three brothers and one relative, but not the other relative. With several days passing without news, she appealed to the authorities: “Let the state tell us what has happened to the people who are out of contact.”

The flood in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality sent debris into the Bhotekoshi River, damaging settlements, roads, bridges and hydropower projects along its banks. It also affected tourists traveling on the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage route. Search and rescue operations continue, while the administration gathers details about Nepali and foreign tourists who remain out of contact.
