Nasruddin targets 2027 SEA Games appearance

Two gold medals won within two weeks have encouraged Terengganu taekwondo athlete Muhammad Nasruddin Azrin to aim for Malaysia’s team at the 2027 SEA Games.

Nasruddin, 21, won the 74-to-80-kilogram kyorugi event at SUKMA 2026 before repeating the achievement for Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia at SUKIPT 2026. He said the consecutive victories had given him confidence to pursue larger opportunities.

His immediate goals include breaking into the national training camp and possibly representing Malaysia at the ASEAN University Games in Kuala Lumpur this December. “I have a target of entering the national camp. Nasruddin described the SEA Games as another target, but said he first needed to secure a place in the national squad. He also cautioned against viewing his two gold medals as proof that he dominates his category. “I feel I have not mastered it yet,” he said, adding that his matches had not shown a wide gap between him and his opponents. In his view, national-team athletes compete at a different level, and he still has room to improve.
