Nation Bids Farewell to Hero Brig-Gen (Rtd) Nyamuronda

Zimbabweans gathered in large numbers at the National Heroes' Acre to pay their final respects to national hero Brigadier-General (Rtd) Albert Nyamuronda. Relatives, friends, comrades, and citizens, some of whom had never met him but felt the impact of his sacrifice, united in bidding farewell to a man remembered for dedicating his life to the country's independence.

Brigadier-General Nyamuronda, who passed away at Chitungwiza Central Hospital at the age of 67, was more than a soldier to those closest to him. He was recognized as a disciplined and principled commander. Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe paid tribute, describing the late hero as a selfless and dedicated cadre who joined the liberation struggle at a young age and served with distinction.

Mr. Henry Nemaire, Brigadier-General Nyamuronda's nephew and family representative, described him as a consistent and diligent individual in both his professional and personal life. He was known for his honesty, high integrity, and unwavering standards. Nemaire also highlighted the Brigadier-General's significant support for his extended family, including paying school fees and assisting with family events.

The late Brigadier-General (Retired) Albert Nyamuronda shall be remembered as a loyal, humble and patriotic cadre, who dedicated his life to the country's independence.

Brigadier-General Nyamuronda, whose wartime name was Cde Jekanyika Gwengwe, was born on January 15, 1957. He began his secondary education at St. Mary's Magadalene before crossing into Mozambique as the liberation struggle intensified. His journey into the struggle exemplified the sacrifices made by many who left the comfort of their homes for the war front.

The nation mourns the loss of a hero who embodied hard work, perseverance, and patriotism. His legacy serves as a reminder of the cost of freedom and the importance of cherishing the sacrifices made by those who fought for Zimbabwe's independence.

He was very honest and consistently maintained high standards of integrity and never compromised on the quality or integrity of his work. He helped many of his extended family members by paying their school fees and organising their funerals and weddings. He was involved in organising and leading these programmes.
