NDLEA, Army seize 604.5kg cannabis in Edo, hunt for drug kingpin

In a significant operation against illicit drug trafficking, the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, has seized 604.5 kilograms of cannabis. The raid, conducted on August 5, 2026, targeted a known drug hub in Ewe Luleha, located in the Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

NDLEA Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju reported that the operation yielded 65 bags of dried weeds, which tested positive for skunk cannabis. Following the successful seizure, the command has launched a manhunt for a suspected drug kingpin identified as Sunday, who is reportedly in hiding. Ofoyeju expressed confidence that the suspect would be apprehended, stating, "He has nowhere to hide because we will certainly apprehend him."

The operation carried out by men of the NDLEA and personnel of the Nigerian Army resulted in the seizure of 65 bags of dried weeds that tested positive for skunk cannabis, weighing 604.5kg.

In a separate but related effort to combat drug-related activities, the NDLEA apprehended nine suspected drug peddlers across various hotspots within the state. Among those arrested were Musa Muhammed, a 58-year-old grandfather, and Ebere Anthony, 55, along with several others found in possession of various illicit substances including Cannabis sativa, Loud, Colorado, and methamphetamine. The NDLEA commended the operation's impact and emphasized the ongoing priority of fighting drug trafficking in the state, urging for continued community involvement in reporting suspicious activities.
