Police rescue 15 kidnap victims, kill abductors in Kogi

Police in Nigeria's Kogi State have rescued 15 kidnap victims following a violent confrontation with their abductors. The operation, which occurred on Sunday along the Itobe–Anyigba Highway, involved a coordinated effort by police, military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilantes.

The rescue mission was launched after a Peace Mass Transit bus was intercepted by kidnappers, who abducted its occupants. Commissioner of Police Kankarofi Bello stated that tactical and intelligence assets were immediately deployed. The subsequent gun battle resulted in the deaths of several abductors, though a local vigilante operative was also killed and a police officer sustained injuries.

All 15 victims, comprising 12 adults and three children, including two Federal Road Safety Corps personnel, were found safe and unharmed. The police are continuing efforts to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers and maintain operations across the state to disrupt criminal activities. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
