Near Kaunas – legendary chebureki, with up to 6 eaten at a time: we only have one type

In the Lithuanian town of Prienai, just south of Kaunas, a unique culinary destination draws visitors: a "cheburekinė" renowned for offering just one item on its menu – a classic, meat-filled pastry.

This long-standing establishment has become a local legend, with its single offering, a cheburek filled with pork, being the primary reason for its success. Priced at 2.50 euros, the pastry is a simple yet delicious staple. The shop opens early, serving customers from 7 a.m.

Prienai is famous for its chebureki – this is an old, legendary place.

Travel journalist Orijus Gasanovas visited the cheburekinė with singer Aistė, sampling the much-talked-about pastry. Gasanovas noted the pastry's crisp exterior and moist, well-seasoned filling. Asta, who works at the shop and whose mother opened it, explained the philosophy behind their limited menu: "Everything is simple, classic, that's why it's tasty. We have only one type of cheburek – the classic with pork."

Beyond the famous chebureki, the Prienai region offers other attractions. Gasanovas and Aistė also engaged in fishing and visited the "Išlaužo žuvies" shop, which sells smoked fish raised locally. The shop's professional chef, Abdala, who is from Lebanon and has lived in Lithuania for 10 years, showcased their range of hot and cold smoked fish, as well as other culinary products.
